About me

I have been a teacher and school leader for over 33 years. I began teaching in Poplar East London and immediately realised I was drawn to and really enjoyed working with children who are challenging. I am fascinated by human behaviour and am constantly learning more about it.

I have worked as an Advisory Teacher for Tower Hamlets Behaviour SupportTeam, been a SENCo in two mainstream secondary schools and Pastoral Deputy Head, DSL

and Inclusion Lead.

My most recent full time role was as Headteacher of a PRU in the South-West of England. This was an extremely exciting opportunity to design a new school steeped in relational and Trauma Informed practice, from the furniture to the policies. OFSTED described it as a “safe haven for its pupils”.

I  now work as a trainer and consultant, working with a range of providers and I am  passionate about improving opportunities and life chances for all young people.

My specialisms are:

  • Training and staff development - particularly in understanding and managing children and young people with SEMH needs behavioural approaches and trauma awareness. I am a Freelance trainer with Trauma Informed Schools UK and Paul Dix Team/ When the Adults Change.

  • School improvement - I designed and built a new school, merging four specialist units into one new provision - described by OFSTED as “A haven for its pupils” in 2020. I have also led the Somerset Inclusion Enquiry as a county wide response to OFSTED's Local Area Inspection

  • Leadership coaching - I am a trained coach who has successfully worked with headteachers and school leaders as well as other specialist settings such as children’s services.

  • Reflective supervision for school leaders, pastoral and SEN staff and Designated Safeguarding Leads working with complex and vulnerable children and young people.

  • Auditing and action planning of school systems to cater for pupils with SEMH and wider SEND.

  • Assessment advice and guidance around stuck and complex cases.
